The Philosophy

21st Century STEM’s mission is to promote and develop the love of math and science in students, teachers and adult learners as the foundation for success in STEM/STEAM related fields. Our experience in providing training and instruction with a goal to develop the “Whole Child” K-12 is healing, inquiry based, culturally relevant and life-affirming. Our goal is to help transform educators into effective practitioners and facilitators of learning, while empowering students to overcome their fear of math.

Through our holistic approach to learning, training, and healing we incorporate rigorous instruction, consisting of Social Emotional Learning, Cultural Competence, and a Growth Mindset framework. We create positive learning environments, which empowers students to participate in a more impactful capacity. Our model aligns with the future of education by enveloping community healing circle work for teachers and students and provides students with peer-to peer group learning in self-organized learning spaces. Our scholars lead the way in learning and work together to present their findings through group presentations in heterogeneous and-or homogeneous groupings. We want students to take ownership over learning in a way that ignites and excites our 21st Century scholars.

Most importantly, we place a visual lens on children in marginalized communities where resources, income and opportunities are limited for people of color to show them they can achieve beyond their wildest dreams. We show students and teachers how much fun learning can be in the classroom and outside the classroom, by letting our scholars explore all subjects through a variety of learning modalities.

Our unique, customized, and comprehensive qualitative and quantitative data supports that 21st Century STEM makes learning math more fun, engaging, transformative and unique. In addition, we continuously supersede math performance targets and continue to elevate math scores in rapid succession as proven on statewide standardized testing.

21st Century STEM fosters a discovery-based approach to problem solving and builds in students and instructors the mental edge necessary for success in all K-12 classrooms, colleges, trade schools and utility companies. We believe students should be afforded the opportunity to explore these subjects as it relates to their world, giving them pride and ownership in learning.

The Solution:

Our key products and services include: Our signature Math Accelerated Programs, (MAP) which was designed using our MASTER system approach: Making Academics Social, Transformative, Engaging and Relevant. These student-led programs can be implemented district-wide or site specific and focus on math, science, and language arts. We also support tutoring programs. Do note that our programs are unique, and custom designed for our clients to engage students of color and look nothing like traditional intervention or tutoring programs.

Whether we are outside planting, measuring, or producing fruit and vegetables the children can take home eat, demonstrating Algebraic concepts on a basketball court, or creating beautiful creations of art, these brilliant minds never cease to amaze us when engaging them in a variety of learning styles. The benefits are more than just academic, our scholars get to experience the healing power of Vitamin D derived from the sun which has been known mitigate depression, promotes exercise, and brings children together to support one other. Added bonuses include mindfulness meditation, positive affirmation work, and energy work that diffuses bullying, allowing students to create communities that are safe and healing with love at the forefront.

Teachers (Facilitators of Instruction) receive individualized coaching sessions and support around lesson planning, pedagogy, student engagement, ensuring alignment to their formative and summative assessments and content knowledge. Coaching also includes hands-on training in simulated classroom environments where we train and model instruction, conduct observation cycles with data-focused, individual feedback sessions to discuss classroom strategies and problems of practice. Coaching services are also available for Administrators, Department Chair’s, and Instructional Coaches.

Additional Programs Include:

  • Our Master Student Program (MSP) begins by training students on how to think, behave and become mathematicians. The program is based on 5 years of student feedback from our sister company, STEMulate Learning about the ‘best practices’ that propelled students to get accepted to top colleges and universities. The MSP program develops mindsets, organizational skills and work habits that make learning deeper and more personal for students. Our underserved and underrepresented students need additional scaffolds, support, and tools to heal and increase self-esteem. They also need skills that will allow them to compete with the best and brightest students throughout the country.

  • Financial Literacy Learning Programs available and also infused into the standard math curriculum.
